ABOUT DR. BRADEN VERNON, PHD
My work focuses on psychosexual concerns that are often difficult to discuss openly, including sexual trauma, compulsive sexual behaviours, paraphilic interests, attraction to minors, and experiences of shame relating to sexuality and identity.
I have undertaken advanced training in psychotherapy, personality assessment, trauma treatment, and sexual health, and have worked extensively with individuals seeking support for highly sensitive concerns.
The Reflection Room was created to provide a confidential and non-judgmental space where these experiences can be explored thoughtfully, respectfully, and without sensationalism.
THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS
The first step is a structured assessment process consisting of four appointments.
While the assessment process will work to understand your experiences of attraction to minors, the assessment will not focus solely on this attraction.
The assessment is designed to develop a broad understanding of you as a person and the factors that may be contributing to your current difficulties.
Structured questionnaires and clinical assessment tools may also be used where appropriate. The goal is to understand the whole person rather than reducing someone to a single aspect of their experience.
For some individuals, psychotherapy may form part of the recommended pathway following assessment. Recommendations vary according to individual circumstances and may involve ongoing psychotherapy, other forms of support, or a combination of approaches.
This includes areas such as:
- Family background and developmental experiences
- Friendships and social relationships
- Romantic and intimate relationships
- Sexual development and sexual history
- Emotional wellbeing
- Personality functioning
- Strengths, coping strategies, and protective factors
- Current life circumstances
PSYCHOTHERAPY & TREATMENT PLANNING
For some individuals, psychotherapy may form part of the recommended treatment plan.
Psychotherapy provides a private and supportive environment to explore experiences, understand underlying patterns, and develop healthier ways forward.
Recommended approaches are integrated with the recommended psychotherapy. The psychotherapy plan is flexible and tailored rather than one-size-fits-all.
The purpose of the assessment process is to determine which pathway is likely to be the most beneficial for your particular circumstances.
INTERNATIONAL APPOINTMENTS
Individuals residing outside Australia are welcome to enquire.
I am trained and insured to provide coaching services internationally via Zoom. Due to differences in licensing and regulatory requirements between jurisdictions, international appointments are provided within a coaching framework rather than as psychotherapy.
While this creates some limitations regarding the services that can be offered, it allows individuals from a wide range of countries to access consultation, support, and recommendations.
Where appropriate, recommendations regarding local treatment and support services may also form part of the process.
FEES
The assessment process consists of four 45-minute appointments conducted via Zoom.
AUD $200 per appointment | USD $145 per appointment (international)
